MFA of Abkhazia: adoption of politicized resolutions by the Human Rights Council delays the likelihood dialogue between Abkhazia and Georgia
The Abkhaz Foreign Ministry commented on the resolution of the UN Human Rights Council.

Sukhum. June 23. Apsnypress. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia commented on the adoption of the resolution “Cooperation with Georgia” at the 43rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The commentary, in particular, says: “At the request of the Georgian side, the resolution“ Cooperation with Georgia ” was adopted, which almost completely repeats the content of previous HRC resolutions on Georgia, which have been adopted by the Council since 2017. Recall that such documents of a purely recommendatory nature declare support for the territorial integrity of Georgia, express “serious concern” with the human rights situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, point out “facts” of discrimination against residents of border regions, and condemn the so-called “border process along lines of occupation ”, etc. As in previous years, the preparation and adoption of such resolutions takes place without a thorough discussion and comprehensive consideration of the relevant issues. Most of the participants of the voting apparently have no desire to delve into the essence of the issue, try to objectively understand the reasons for the Georgian-Abkhaz contradictions. This approach leads to the release of template-identical resolutions that do not reflect the real situation and do not affect the situation in the South Caucasus.

The Abkhaz side has repeatedly appealed to the UN Human Rights Council with a proposal to express its opinion on the whole range of issues that are addressed in the resolutions adopted at the request of Georgia. However, our proposals continue to be stubbornly ignored. Apparently, the leadership of the HRC does not need an alternative view of the problems of Georgian-Abkhaz relations. It becomes much more important to adopt the next resolution, which fully satisfies all the claims of the Georgian side.

It is also outrageous that the Human Rights Council does not at all care about the systematic violation of the rights of citizens of the Republic of Abkhazia by Georgia. Such facts, which the Abkhaz side publicly voiced during the Geneva discussions, for some reason fall outside the scope of the HRC. Such a selective approach to the problem of human rights only undermines the credibility of the international human rights organization.

Georgia and its partners in international structures need to understand that the adoption of politicized unilateral resolutions essentially achieves only two goals - it satisfies the ambitions of Tbilisi and more and more delays the likelihood equal dialogue between Abkhazia and Georgia. ”
