The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia reported on its work for the year
Sukhum. December 28. Apsnypress. Lana Tsvizhba. Annual Report on the work of Foreign Ministry was represented to journalists at a briefing in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.
According to the report, there were more than 200 meetings of the Foreign Minister and his deputies with the delegations of Russia, EU, UN, OSCE, Switzerland, Venezuela, Transdniestria, South Ossetia, representatives of international non-governmental organizations in the past year.
Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia received 3 interstate, 9 intergovernmental and 8 interdepartmental agreements.
The work on the implementation of provisions of the Treaty on alliance and strategic partnership, ensuring security of Abkhazia and its citizens, the socio-economic development, promotion of Abkhazia's interests in other countries continued in the past year.
"There were signed six bilateral agreements between Russia and Abkhazia in 2016. The People's Assembly of the Parliament of Abkhazia ratified 3 agreements", - the report says.
At the same time, during the reporting period continued strengthening and substantial saturation of the Abkhaz-Russian relations in various spheres. Since 2015, were held regular meetings in the framework of foreign policy coordination mechanism as well as the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Abkhazia and Russia.
"On November 3, 2016 there was a meeting of the Abkhaz delegation headed by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia Daur Kove with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during which they discussed in detail the whole range of issues on the bilateral agenda. Significant assistance in strengthening the international position of the Republic of Abkhazia, establishment of new contacts in various regions of the world is made by the Russian Federation", - highlights in the report.
The briefing also noted the work of the official website of the Embassy of Abkhazia in Venezuela, continued cooperation with the Honorary Consul of Abkhazia in China Ge Zhili. Presented a number of proposals to develop and strengthen China's relations with Abkhazia, discussed prospects for deepening cooperation in agriculture, tourism and education.
On June 3, 2016 in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia was held a meeting with the President of "Silk Road" Jiang Baojun. During the meeting they discussed the idea of a representative of Chinese business and Chinese Houses in Abkhazia. They also discussed possible cooperation and establishment of the Abkhazian-Chinese contacts in the humanitarian sphere.
Also, in 2016 in Italy there were several significant events, one of which was the opening of the first foreign Abkhazian Culture Institute of D. Gulia, which took place on June 17th.
The presentation of the first issue of a quarterly newspaper "Abkhazia today". This is the first newspaper to be published in four languages: Abkhaz, Russian, Italian and English. All the above activities were carried out thanks to the support and assistance of the Ambassador of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia, Mr. Vito Grittani.
In addition, in 2016, there was a series of important meetings with members of the Bundestag, devoted to the question of issuing visas to citizens of Abkhazia, as well as the organization of meetings of the Bundestag with their counterparts from Abkhazia.
In 2016 the Abkhaz-South Ossetian co-operation was developed. On September 18-20 the delegation of the Republic of Abkhazia headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Arshba made the official visit in the Republic of South Ossetia.
Also the report notes the significant impact of the Abkhazian-Transnistrian cooperation.
Through the Departments of Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region continued active work aimed at maintaining and developing the existing ties.
As part of the Abkhaz-Venezuelan cooperation on 7-9 September a delegation of the Venezuelan Embassy in the Russian Federation visited the Republic of Abkhazia with the aim of further strengthening of bilateral cooperation. During the visit, there were held meetings with the leadership of Foreign Ministry of Abkhazia, Minister of Economy Adgur Ardzinba, vice-president Vitaly Gabniya. To date, the Venezuelan side has four draft agreements on mutual visa-free travel and cooperation in culture, education, sport.
Also at the briefing emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia contributes on the training of future diplomats. "Thanks to the decision of the President of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia annually selects five citizens of Abkhazia to study at MGIMO on a budgetary basis", - mentions the document.
