RA MFA: there is a crude substitution of concepts in the resolution adopted by the Council of Europe
Comment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Abkhazia.

Sukhum. May 4. Apsnypress. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia commented on the decision of the Council of Europe. The comment says:

"On May 2, 2018, the Committee of Deputy Ministers of the Council of Europe adopted another decision, which reflects the firm support for the territorial integrity of Georgia. The decision also noted that the conflict is between Russia and Georgia. The Council of Europe also positively assessed the new peace initiative of the Georgian government "Step on the way to a better future".

The adoption of another odious resolution by the Council of Europe is only disappointing and regrettable. We have to state again that the documents adopted by the Council of Europe are extremely biased and politicized. In this context, it is necessary to emphasize that all decisions of the Council of Europe, as well as of other international structures, are taken without the participation of the Abkhaz side, do not reflect the real situation on the ground and seriously damage the process of establishing a full-scale interstate dialogue between the parties.

There is a crude substitution of concepts in the resolution adopted by the Council of Europe, as a result of which the conflict between Georgia and Abkhazia is trying to impart a Georgian-Russian context. Such an interpretation of events is absolutely unacceptable.

I would like to remind representatives of the Council of Europe that the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict has deep historical preconditions, the apogee of which was the armed aggression of Georgia against Abkhazia in 1992-1993, aimed at total destruction of the Abkhazian people. Unfortunately, the Council of Europe and other international structures try not to recall the tragic events that initiated the open Georgian-Abkhaz confrontation. This approach can not in any way contribute to the settlement of the relationship between Georgia and Abkhazia.

It is characteristic that the documents adopted by various European structures do not have legal force, are not binding and are rather populist and propagandistic in nature. As for the so-called peace initiatives of Georgia under the name "Step on the way to a better future," they can also be regarded as the next populist move by the Georgian side in order to impress Georgia's western partners.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Abkhazia expresses serious concern over the tendentious decisions of the Council of Europe. The Abkhaz side also insists on the need for participation of its representatives in all international venues, where issues affecting the interests of the Republic of Abkhazia are being considered.
