Sukhum. June 27. Apsnypress. Bagrat Khutaba, Chairman of the State Committee on Physical Culture and Sport of the Republic of Abkhazia, arrived in the Syrian Arab Republic on a working visit.
There are planned meetings with the Syrian Sports Minister, President of the Syrian Olympic Committee, President of the Syrian Wrestling Federation and leaders of the Syrian sports federations in various sports. The State Committee of Abkhazia reported.
It is planned to discuss cooperation in the sphere of sports between the Syrian Arab Republic and the Republic of Abkhazia, holding match meetings between the republics, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of Victory in the War of Abkhazia. There will be memorandum on cooperation with the Syrian Ministry of Sport and Syrian sports federations.
It is noted that Bagrat Khutaba previously worked as head coach of the team of Syria in freestyle wrestling. Despite the fact that Syria was in a difficult situation, in the conditions of the actual war, in 2016 the leadership of the State Committee for Physical Culture and Sports managed to organize a match for free-style wrestling between the national teams of Syria and Abkhazia. This event aroused great interest of the public of our country and compatriots from Syria.
It is emphasized that since a large number of compatriots live in the Syrian Arab Republic and in the light of recognition of independence of the Republic of Abkhazia by the Syrian Arab Republic, strengthening ties in various spheres of public life, including sports, will be a useful step in developing the relations between the two countries.
